APSA 2011

Dear APSA members,

We have successfully concluded 11th General Assembly of APSA held in Tokyo from 19 to 21 September 2011.

In spite of unfavorable conditions of post earthquake damages in northern Japan as well as high appreciation of Japanese Yen, and strong typhoon attacked Tokyo on the closing ceremony of APSA2011 on site, there were as many as 297 participants from 22 countries actually registered at the reception desk.

Participants were coming from Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United States, and Viet Nam.

We would like to thank all the participants for their commitment to the APSA.

At the concluding session, we announced that the next APSA will be held in Taipei in October 2013 under the leadership of the Taiwan National University.
See you again in Taipei in 2013.

APSA2011 Congress Program is now available online.

Main Theme: Planning for Sustainable Asian Cities

The 11th APSA International Congress seeks to provide a path not only for a broad investigation of urban planning studies across the Asian cities, but also for sharing professional and academic knowledge and expertise.

Cities in an age of globalization have been urged to quest for reconsideration of traditional urban planning concepts and instruments. History of urban planning in Asian cities goes back many decades but the re-planning strategy is clear and growing interest as the next agenda for future sustainable regeneration.
